Qinfeng ‘Javen’ Shi

Javen Shi is the Lead and Founder of DeepSightX (11 staff), the Founding Director of Probabilistic Graphical Model Group (20+ staff and students), Director in Advanced Reasoning and Learning of Australian Institute for Machine Learning (120+ people) at the University of Adelaide. He is the first DECRA Awardee in Machine Learning (2012-2014), and has been invited twice to Prime Minister’s Science Prizes Dinner due to his work and reputation.

He is recognised both locally and internationally for the impact of his work, through an impressive record of publishing in the highest ranked venue in the field of Computer Vision & Pattern Recognition (20 CVPR papers), through an impeccable record of ARC funding (including his DECRA, 2 DP as 1st CI, 3 LP as Co-CI). He has published over 60 peer reviewed papers, over 90% are at ERA [A/A*].

He has many industry clients ranging from agriculture, smart manufacturing, automated trades, computer vision, water utility, health, mining, education and others. He formed the team DeepSightX recently won 2nd place taking $200,000 prize money in a global competition to predict mineral deposits in SA. One thousand people from 62 countries had entered. In merely 3 months, his team outperforms many professional companies with over 40 years experience in mining.
