Adam Tow

Adam Tow graduated from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics) Honours I in 2014. He joined the Australian Centre for Robotic Vision in 2015 as a PhD Candidate. Adam’s research is focussed on ways humans can teach robots new tasks by showing them how a human would do the task. His research topic was inspired by participation in the 2016 Amazon Picking Challenge where team ACRV placed 6th out of 16 teams from around the world. In 2017, team ACRV went on to win the now Amazon Robotics Challenge.

Outside of his research, Adam has worked as a QUT Science and Engineering Faculty Widening Participation Ambassador throughout 2012 – 2015. In that role, he visited schools throughout the SEQ northern corridor and across regional QLD, quelling common doubts about the possibility of going to university and inspiring young minds with hands-on workshops. Adam has also worked as a student and graduate Engineer at Synengco Pty. Ltd. and Arup, respectively, as well as a QUT tutor, running undergraduate subject tutorials during semester.

In 2017, Adam left his PhD to pursue a fantastic opportunity in China – joining the startup company Dorabot. You can see Adam’s introductory video here
